Dr. Baum grew up outside of Saratoga Springs and is a graduate of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. He completed a preceptorship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and continued on to practice at the Park East Animal Hospital in Manhattan. He is the author of several veterinary professional journal articles and coauthored a report of neuraxonal dystrophy in Rottweilers with Cornell neuroanatomist, Alexander Delahunta, which was printed in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Baum has an active interest in One Health, trauma, and emergency medicine. He is the former Executive Director and continues to serve on the Board of Directors of the VIN Foundation in Davis, California. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Ecohealth Alliance in New York City. EcoHealth Alliance leads cutting-edge scientific research into the critical connections between human and wildlife health and delicate ecosystems around the world.
Rick is an avid hiker, runner, and traveler. He lives in Arlington with his wife, Catherine, and daughter, Sarah, with their dogs, cats, and horses.
